erasure

   

Tonight I attended the Sherman Gallery's opening of 'Erasure' by artist Dinh Q. Le, who also exhibited at MoMA earlier this year.  

Upon entering I was caught off guard by the sheer scale of his work. There was a boardwalk that serpented through the room- the only walkway through the gallery space. Surrounding was a torn apart boat sitting atop 100,000 postcards and photographs which were lost memories of Vietnamese refugees- we were encouraged to pick them up to take a closer look. Then to my favourite piece to the exhibition- the enormous floor-to-ceiling projection of an 18th century ship slowly being enveloped by flames. The layered images and massive size really pulled me in. I truly felt immersed in this artwork, I mean, it wasn't hard, I was physically standing on top of it!

 I urge you to go and have a look for yourself. Erasure will be exhibiting until the 10th September.
